Captain America: Fans react to plot twist in the new storyline

Why would the creators of Captain America, issue #1 have such a twist in the story? Fans of the Marvel character were not happy with this latest plot twist in the released comic book today. It looked to me like they were outraged  based on the hashtag that just came out. The last thing this hero needed was any tie to Hydra and the Nazi’s.

While every story needed a new path, this one went too far. Sometimes, being that far out on a limb can kill a series of any type. Even though Sailor Moon barely lasted five seasons in Japan, it only survived three in the United States. Both backers, Viacom and Dic withdrew their support after not liking the direction the series took. At least the creators of Inuyasha knew to end their cartoon series with the completion of graphic novel #356, but the novels continued until the fight was over with Naraku.

These critics of the Captain America comic were right to be so outraged.

  • It tarnished the symbol that he stood for
  • The line between good and evil were blurred
  • It went against the true nature of his character

As a fan of the man in the red, white and blue, he should pick a side because this was just wrong. Even the Man of Steel had an out when it looked like he played both sides of the fence. Those enemies didn’t realize that, like Batman, Superman had brains. Neither of them went into battle unprepared. Note Batman’s suit in their last movie. Did Captain America have an out when dealing with the Hydra and the Nazis? Let’s hope so, otherwise the colors of his crime fighter’s suit should be changed.

In the last few days, there was a campaign to give Captain America a boyfriend. What were people of today thinking, making every crime fighter gay  because getting married and having babies were risky enough as normal humans? Before modern conveniences like artificial insemination, two men having babies was impossible. It still is without a surrogate female to carry their child. Two men couldn’t produce an egg! This was a new and unexplored avenue also. Something The 700 Club did not like. A lot of others didn’t either.

Before anyone decided to abandon this superhero, they should read the whole story. There were more than two sides to it. There were Nazis and Jews that fought in Hitler’s army just like there were Germans that fought on the side of the Allies. Let’s hope it didn’t hurt his popularity as a crime fighter.

Will the new company name mean better cable deals?

While watching television last night, an ad came on announcing that the local cable company, Time Warner Cable, was purchased by Charter Communications and was to be renamed Spectrum. The article found by me on the internet just confirmed it. Let’s hope Charter Communications can save the dignity of the floundering cable company.

Fluctuating Prices  This didn’t really hit me until all the new channels were added and my having to rely on their modem/router combo for internet service. My router died after starting its third life cycle in 2013. If my own combo were purchased, the cost was $20 less. Unfortunately, the cost was too high at the moment. Apparently, there won’t be a fee for a box channels, and modem router rental, which would eliminate the taxes and fees on every charge too.

In looking at my last cable bill, getting rid of the Preferred Package eliminated those channels exclusively on the cable box. This meant programming  like Doctor Who, The Gilmore Girls and Dateline on ID were gone. Even the cable representative said the package used previously was too big for one person. My bill has gone down $20 instead of $12.

Connection and equipment troubles In the last three years, there was trouble with the local cable company over my cable and internet connections. In 2013, they almost cost me my job with the Examiner when they couldn’t get my appointment  time right, even after leaving customer service reps both my numbers. Later that year, someone from the apartment complex stole my cable and internet connection the day of receiving my smart phone. It took the technician all of ten minutes to tell me this and reconnect me. Getting everything to work took another 45 minutes. They also told me not to pursue criminal charges because the student population was gone already. It was a college prank.

In 2015, someone wearing the local cable company t-shirt , complete with the logo, mistook me for some other unknown family.  He still disconnected me after my telling him there was no one here by the name of White. What was worse was that the techs didn’t see a need to reconnect me until the following Tuesday.  It was their fault, so the man on the phone, a supervisor, demanded they send someone that weekend to reconnect my cable and internet.

When the Tech came a few months ago to switch my old box to the new version, he didn’t know how to reconnect my VCR and DVD player and would have left them unhooked if it weren’t for my insistence. The one major reason for his high rating was that his first attempt at reconnecting both of these items actually worked, otherwise it would’ve been below a five.

Cable Company Errors Because of all these incidents, my cable bill saw a reduced rate. Every time there was a problem with my cable and the technicians on the phone messed up, my bill reflected their mistakes. Since improving their services, my bill didn’t see to many yearly reduced rates unless my having to drop part of a package to maintain payment. Spectrum was to give its customers a choice of staying with  their old package or picking another. Yeah, right. My biggest problem was being understood by someone with a thick Indian accent. The $20 credit still had to be re-added because it was overlooked.

In addition to expanding their digital reach in New York, customer service will return to the United States and Internet speed started at a standard 60 Mbps. Right now, this blogger didn’t see any faster speed on their laptop yet. There was a faster speed offered through the current package already. Connection in New York had nothing to do with those living in northwest Texas. It went by zip code at first.  It would be nice not to have a standing yearly contract with unpredictable monthly price tags. If the monthly service fees didn’t include an itemized tax addition, that would be nice also. It surprised me that they didn’t go to a flat rate for all to begin with?

So Long Time Warner Cable: Charter to Retire Maligned Brand By Alex Sherman

Since the article said a change in a package or price wouldn’t be seen immediately, Let’s hope the video making the announcement seen twice stood up to its promises.

Must see Memorial Day movies: Sure to please

These were Memorial Day movies  not to miss. The top three were some of my favorites, even though the first two were seen only in cartoon format in the beginning. According to Variety, the top two movies were to have made a big splash at the box office this weekend. Let’s hope that happens.

X-Men: Apocalypse Theatrical Trailer #3 – Movie Insider

Everything they learned as students were either going to have to be forgotten or used in this major battle coming Memorial Day weekend. As a Marvel fan myself, Apocalypse was the ultimate evil villain bent on destroying humanity, even the X-Men with his type of cleansing. This movie appeared to be one of the “coming of age” movies for Professor X and his school of gifted students. Can he defeat the super villain and his band of followers?  I’m on the edge of my seat.

The boost for this launch in ticket sales was because of the previous week’s global take off of this movie. It was listed on Movie Insider as being a nationwide release. Variety also projected that this Marvel film was forecast to open at $80 million.

Don’t get this movie confused with the classic Disney cartoon or the live action version that starred Michael Crawford as “The White Rabbit”  in 1972. Basically, this blogger enjoyed just about any version of this story, even the updated one done by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp. In spite of everything being strange and unusual, a grown up Allice pulled everything together to make sense of the dream she had. This movie release was supposed to reach more than $60 million this holiday weekend.

Last year, Tomorrowland made a weak showing at the box  at $42.7 million. Disney was hoping to recover with this release and its updates. Let’s hope this occurred.

If the movie theater lines for the above trailers were too long or sold out, three broadcasts of the Roots remake was bound to thrill movie watchers. It fascinated me how they updated this from the 1977 landmark movie. One thing liked by this blogger was that the movie remake was shot in the United States and in Africa, so there was the real feel of a foreign country in the second movie rather than a studio back lot in California.

Starting Monday, this Memorial Day movie was to be shown on The History Channel, A&E Network and Lifetime for four nights. Isn’t it ironic that all three cable networks were intertwined? The A&E Network owned the other two channels. It made me eel good to find out that one of the original actors Lavar Burton, (Young Kunta Kinte, had a hand in the remake.

Roots was remade because:

  1. It was outdated. Mr. Wolper, the younger, said it didn’t have the glue of 31 years ago. Today’s values didn’t match
  2. More knowledge was found as to slave cruelty
  3. There were errors made in the first movie. See the part about Chicken George
  4.  They wanted it to mirror the #BlackLivesMatter movement
  5. Different POV:  from master and family to slave

Memorial Day movies always usher in the official start of summer. If one couldn’t  see a top 10 movie in a theater this weekend, be sure to watch the remake of Roots.

Billboard Music Awards: 2016 web highlights

Stevie Wonder & Madonna perform a tribute to Prince

Apparently, the Billboard Music Awards were so good, that this blogger couldn’t decide which video was to lead, so All of them were used.  The highlight for me was when Stevie Wonder and Madonna performed a tribute to Prince.

Granted, the L.A. Times article asked whether he would have approved? Well, not the way they changed the genre from pop to gospel. It also said it would have ‘disturbed’ him because of the way they mouthed the words to his songs. Both stars had great voices so why did they do this?

Instagram rant in bad taste

Of course, Entertainment Tonight had the best, worst and weirdest moments of Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night. This was what wasn’t understood by me, because on the same page, Justin Bieber had a lot of negative comments he tiraded about on Instagram. This was what he said after winning for his performance of “Sorry“:

“I don’t know about these award shows,” Bieber admitted in a lengthy Instagram rant on Monday. “No disrespect to anybody at any of the shows or the people running it. Nothing but love for you guys and your support. But I don’t feel good when I’m there nor after.”

If he didn’t want to be there, he could have recorded his performance and the acceptance speech if he won as well as designated someone to speak on his behalf. Even though he made a total fool out of himself later, this was SO rude. It was still somewhat disrespectful to me. Like Barbara Walters comment about Sean Penn, this blogger could also excuse his youth.

EgyptAir MS804 disappearance unclear, people were watching

This day was a sad day for the families who had relatives on EgyptAir MS804, which carried 66 passengers. As a blogger, my heart went out to those who had relatives on the missing flight. Details were sketchy as to the cause of the missing flight, but pieces of the plane were found near Karpathos Island, according to a press release on EGYPTAIR’s Facebook page. Several other major news outlets have reported on their findings on this tragic event also.

Here was what The Huffington Post said this morning about what they knew so far:

EgyptAir Flight 804 plummeted into the Mediterranean Sea early Thursday while en route from Paris to Cairo with 66 people on board, and officials are trying to determine if the plane was taken down by terrorists.

Airline officials said search teams found wreckage near the Greek island of Karpathos on Thursday, however Greek officials denied that any debris recovered so far was linked to the plane.

  • EgyptAir MS804 was flying from Paris to Cairo and vanished from radar with 66 people on board.
  • The Airbus A320 crashed into the Mediterranean Sea but the cause is unclear.
  • One child and two infants were among the 30 Egyptians, 15 French and 10 other nationalities on board.

Now that the wreckage has been verified and found, the next investigations were into the who and why if terrorism wasn’t the cause. In the meantime, EgyptAir listed its condolences to the families affected by the plane’s crashing on its Facebook page.

EGYPTAIR sincerely conveys its deepest sorrow to the families and friends of the passengers on board Flight MS804. Family members of passengers and crew have been already informed and we extend our deepest sympathies to those affected. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Investigation Team in co-operation with the Greek counterpart was still searching for other remains of the missing plane.

According to The Telegraph, EgyptAir had been plagued with plane crashes and hijackings since it was founded in 1971. The Egyptian government refused to believe that the plane crashed on purpose. Because of the tragedy today, this blogger did not want to speculate as to the cause or point any accusing finger at any suspects, but once again one had to look at all the media coverage.

Before 9/11, and even during that time, coverage of catastrophic events such as plane crashes and massive explosions that take a lot of lives were being sensationalized by the ever popular media on both sides of the coin. Yes, the news had to be reported, but some things should be kept from the media. Remember how the parade route of the Arch Duke Ferdinand was published in the paper? His assassination further sparked the dispute between Serbia and Austria-Hungary at the turn of the 20th Century.

The primary source of Franz Ferdinand’s unpopularity however related to the policies he intended to apply once he assumed the throne.  He proposed to replace Austro-Hungarian dualism with ‘Trialism,’ a triple monarchy in which the empire’s Slavs would have an equal voice in government with the Germans and Magyars.

Ferdinand was also considering the idea of a federalism made up of 16 states; the aim being to avoid disintegration of the fading Austro-Hungarian empire.  Unfortunately, these ideas were not popular among the ruling elite

As Inspector General of the army, Franz Ferdinand accepted an invitation from General Oskar Potiorek to visit the capital of Bosnia, Sarajevo, to inspect army exercises.  Bosnia – and Herzegovina – were provinces that had been under Austro-Hungarian administration since 1878, by international agreement.  Austria annexed the provinces outright in 1908, a controversial move which upset governments in the west; however, Greater-Serbia proponents were outraged.  They wanted the provinces to be part of a Serbian led pan-Slav state, rather than part of the Austro-Hungarian empire.

A Serbian terrorist group, the Black Hand, resolved to assassinate Franz Ferdinand during his visit to Sarajevo on 28 June 1914, thereby stalling his proposed reforms. Franz Ferdinand was fatally shot while riding in a motorcade.

What bothers me most was some of the people responsible for the #ParisAttacks last year were found in Brussels, Belguim. It scared me to think that this might have been in response to all those arrests made late last year and earlier this year in that country. Constant media coverage didn’t make things any easier/ It just made the next group of people planning a disaster like this a lot smarter. Watching the media coverage of catastrophic events was bad enough. The internet was a great place for finding footage or written articles on anything seen  as  a disaster.

Just like the #FergusonRiots, this was also a form of expression, but it has yet to have a name to it.

Yoboogle: Sign in error sources found

Here’s a plug for all those computer techs or wannabes out there. If something was known, tell it. Recently, one of the websites maintained by me was down. The login form was not showing up when trying to post my articles on Yoboogle. At first, the error message read: ‘Error in Line 17’. Last week, the website was easy to navigate, but logging in as its administrator was not possible. Finding the sign in errors were simple for me, but fixing it was difficult because of my not having the skill to do so.

Contacting the hosting company was as difficult as trying to make a direct call to a state agency when something was really needed. My efforts at trying to get my Medicare Part D Plan on a weekend only got delayed because of that. Apparently, the company that backed the plan should get the inquiry, not Medicare. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas was closed until Monday also. My finding the sign in error sources should limit the trial and error method of fixing this trouble.

There was a method to my madness here so bare with me. There was a thread tying all this together.  The worry for me was getting  notification on my smart phone that my two-step verification code needed changing on GoDaddy. That was my reaction after the floating Facebook widget ended up with a virus last year and had to be removed.  After trying the main line on the hosting site for two weeks and getting nothing, e-mailing the one who set the page up was the next step.  For this, solid evidence was needed by either word or picture.  In this case, the words were the only thing needed to invoke a response from my sponsor, but this blogger was going to add a picture too.

All one had to do was right click on the Sign in/Join link on the page and on the pull down menu, click ‘Inspect’,  A picture should pop up like this:

Fig 1

20160516_164004 Yoboogle error fig 1

Here was what my sponsor got via email last week: *Uncaught Error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: a[href*=#] *

Fig 2

The ironic thing was that my curiosity led me straight to the cause of the error. Upon further inspection, here was what the yellow triangle revealed in brown print:  ‘//@ sourceURL and ‘//@ sourceMappingURL are deprecated, please use ‘//# sourceURL=’ and ‘//# sourceMappingURL=’ instead.

Fig 3

Sign In error 2 Yellow Triangle w/ exclamation point

The funny thing was, that the second part of the sign in errors wasn’t found until this past weekend. It was as easy as scrolling down the page after Figure 2. This was done late Saturday afternoon after all the trouble trying to find information on another matter my sister asked me for last week.  It felt good to get pictures to prove the situation with the sign in errors to others, like my sponsor.

An IT tech can make a  lot f money as a repair person. If my skills were certifiable, that would greatly improve my financial situation. One did have to start small though. In my case, fixing problems with the older computers before Windows 10 was my forte. Keeping a running notebook of possible problems kept my desktop and laptop running smoothly for years. Without my return to school, this was impossible to do.

If one wanted to play the game, they had to understand the players, Muriel StaceyAnne Of Green Gables: The Sequel

It was a good idea to check the area in where one lived to see what computer repair shops provide and the amount they charge.  Now that Windows 10 was the preferred operating system, most computer repair shops weren’t looking at anything less. This meant, if the same service were offered at a cheaper price, that shop would have more customers and more success. This took time and research if one wanted to offer a service that made money.

One thing liked by me was to repair a computer remotely, which meant being able to access another computer from California or Washington State. This was where my brother should be certified. Even though his knowledge was limited, he had friends that knew computers.  His youngest son was well versed in the latest computer software while he knew the latest operating system.  It was him that said to trade up not down.

Even though becoming an IT Tech was not in my future, my stumbling into the sign in errors were sure to aid others on how to move forward and solve the problem.

Donald Trump wasn’t letting immigration into America without a Visa

A few years ago, staying in a foreign country was hard enough. So bad, in fact, that people had to draw lots in 2013. Some Americans and foreigners alike were concerned about their immigration status that if their number didn’t come up, they would have to return home with no Visa. Now, it was to become even harder as the election looms  and the possibility of changes in political party. The loopholes getting into America were to get harder for immigrants and their immigration.

If Donald Trump were elected president, he wouldn’t let  anyone into the country without a Visa. He did say that if the first mayor of London were a foreigner, he would make an exception, because he is a Muslim. As usual Donald Trump was missing two-thirds of the puzzle box because Sadiq Khan thought the Republican front runner ‘didn’t know anything’ about Islam.

In all fairness, my knowledge of Islam is limited also. Most of what was known by me was taken from the news. Everyone knew how biased that was anyway. My Uncle had a copy of the Koran and claimed to know what it said.

It didn’t look like he knew anything about foreign policy either, judging by what he said about Puerto Rico and their financial crises last week. So Sadiq Khan was right.  It’s a wonder the Google search for immigration was up nearly 66% in the last few days. Last week, there was a surge in the Google search on Isis in Iraq.

There was good news though, most of the radicalism of Isis that has taken place in the United States has leveled off or fallen from 10 to one a month, according to CBN News today. That didn’t mean that the powers that be weren’t tracking 800 people with ties to terrorist activities. It also didn’t mean that we weren’t to stop watching the trend either. This was where they should keep smart phone data.

The Puerto Rican debt: Trump didn’t understand foreign policy

Donald Trump will not help the Island of Puerto Rico out of its current debt crises. This didn’t surprise the rest of the media or myself. Unless some other nation took pity on the territory, they will default on their more than $2 billion debt. Nevertheless, it was because of the Puerto Rican debt that relations were strained or non-existent for the last eight years.

The business tycoon stated that he loved debt, but the hurdle was that the amount was ‘too large to handle.’ He also said he didn’t want to solve a problem that U.S. Congress helped along. It made me wonder if Donald Trump was going to help find a solution to the climbing $3 trillion debt due to defense spending.? We helped create some of the terrorist groups in the Middle East also. What will be done there other than denying asylum to those that had been in Syria, Yemen and Belgium, or other well-known terrorist countries?

Donald Trump wasn’t the only one who opposed helping Puerto Rico out of its debt problem. Some of the democrats didn’t support the plan below either. To me, this was more like something a dictator would propose, not someone representing democracy. The plan below wasn’t what they wrote or supported.

The financial crises started in 1975. It seemed that the Puerto Rican government did it to themselves when the U.S. failed to regulate the bond market, then worth $37 billion. They borrowed 72 billion in bond money without making themselves accountable for what they used, so the their lenders never knew what their needs were. Compound this with poor leadership on the government’s part and they had trouble.

The Republican Party did have a plan to help solve the island nation’s debt, but one headline called it “shameful and degrading”. It was a wonder they wanted independence. This was like a master and servant relationship.

House Speaker Paul Ryan liked the plan, calling it:

“Thoughtful, comprehensive legislation that gives the U.S. Territory the tools it needs to deal with its systemic fiscal and budgeting problems — without a taxpayer bailout.”

Democrats were ciiting the ‘unraveling of the democratic process’. This was what the five person board had the power to do in a written statement:

…a five-person board would be designed to audit the island’s government and create budget measures along with new fiscal plans. What’s more, the board will have authority to take off with their plans if  the Puerto Rico’s governor and the legislature fail to do so.“I don’t have a problem with a board that advises, that supervises, one with which we can have a discussion. But we will never accept a board that has control over Puerto Rico’s affairs.”

Pelosi also cited this kind of situation was similar to the Graham-Rudman-HollingsBalanced Budget Act on the mounting debt. She thought this would be ‘forcing’ instead of submitting a recommendation to the Puerto Rican governor and legislative body. Not only was this rejected by the Island territory, it was seen as “the worst in colonial oppression” according to Eduardo Bhatia, Senate President.

What bothers me is if Trump didn’t want to extend an olive branch to Puerto Rico with their financial crises, how would he handle other types of foreign policy? Where would he cut to make our trillion dollar debt manageable and will the entitlement programs and social services suffer like the Republicans wanted?

All of the above questions had to be answered to America’s satisfaction before moving into the Oval Office, if he makes it there. One had to understand the players if they were to ‘Make America Great Again’ and this blogger doesn’t think Trump understands what he was doing.

Paul Ryan lead list of Republicans not backing Trump

There might be a contested Republican  convention yet. Paul Ryan, House Speaker, (R-Wis)  was one of a growing list of party members announcing that they will not endorse Donald Trump. They will meet to have a discussion sometime in the future, but  what day has not been determined. The list of topics was undefined too.

In KFDX Noon News this afternoon, said that Ryan wasn’t ‘there’ yet. No one knew what that meant. The same thing was repeated on the five o’clock broadcast. Was Donald Trump able to  smooth things over enough to gain Ryan’s support? Right now, it’s hard to tell, because everything he said had an adverse effect on the party itself. Every time Donald Trump opened his mouth, someone got offended by his words. Let’s hope for his sake he can reel in this big fish sniffing around the hook.

Gee, let’s do a Dr. Phil: The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.  In the past, he had offended Immigrants, Latinos, Hispanics, women, and the military.  After all that, he had a picture taken of himself eating a taco bowl with the caption, I love Hispanics. If the Donald became a master negotiator, this would rally the fractured party so they all have one common goal in getting the nominee elected.  That was Paul Ryan’s goal too.

Last month, The 700 Club said that more  than 30% of those identifying with the Republican Party said they wouldn’t vote on Super Tuesday this fall. My vote for the other party nominee would be by default. Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders weren’t  top drawer either. NBC Nightly News  said that the GOP  was trying a massive takeover to stop Trump from winning the nomination. John Kasich and Ted Cruz have suspended their campaigns for president as of the last GOP Primary vote a week ago. Their efforts failed.

The strangest thing about the upcoming convention was that just about all of the prior candidates that have stopped campaigning will not be at the convention. If the Ryan Trump talks failed next week, Republican Party unification looked to be a long shot.
